Day 1

Arrival in the morning and meeting with the guide.

Visit to the Palazzo della Pilotta, one of the city’s most characteristic buildings. Inside the palace, we visit the famous Farnese Theatre. In the gallery, we will follow in the footsteps of two great masters active in Parma in the 16th century: Correggio and Parmigianino, and look at the portraits of the ducal families.

Visit to the Sala San Paolo with frescoes by Correggio.

Visit to the church of San Giovanni Evangelista. The interior dome is decorated with frescoes by Correggio.

Lunch in a typical restaurant.

In the afternoon, visit to the Cathedral, whose dome was frescoed by Correggio.

Visit the Baptistery, built of pink Verona marble on an octagonal base. The interior depicts the cycle of months and seasons and the corresponding signs of the zodiac, created by Antelami.

The tour continues to the Church of the Steccata, which preserves the splendid frescoes by Parmigianino. Since 1823, the remains of fourteen Farnese-Bourbon princes and dukes have rested in the crypt.

Day 2

A few kilometres from Parma, towards the River Po, lies the ‘golden triangle’ of castles and fortresses that tell the story of the wealth of the province of Parma. Visit to the Rocca Meli Lupi di Soragna, a splendid residence with sumptuous and elegant Baroque furnishings and decorations.

Followed by a guided tour of the Rocca Sanvitale di Fontanellato, an imposing castle in the centre of the town which houses the famous Hall of Diana and Atteone painted by Parmigianino.

Lunch in a typical restaurant.

Transfer to the Reggia di Colorno, the splendid and monumental residence of the Dukes of Parma and Maria Luigia of Austria.
