In the afternoon, depart for Piacenza for a guided city tour. In the city center stands the splendid Palazzo Comunale, built in Lombard Gothic style, with brick vaults, marble arches, paired columns, and an impressive row of battlements—one of the most beautiful town halls in Italy! Visit the Basilica of Saint Francis. The cathedral also holds a surprise beneath its dome: sublime frescoes by Guercino, featuring cherubs and Madonnas. No visit to Piacenza is complete without exploring the Palazzo Farnese! Constructed by the great Mannerist architect Vignola, the palace remains unfinished, yet still impressively vast. Its extensive spaces house a museum with an interesting collection of paintings, including Botticelli’s “Virgin Adoring the Child with Saint John”, presented in tondo.
