A CYCLING ITINERARY TO DISCOVER THE CASTLES OF THE LOWLAND

A bike itinerary immersed in the countryside of the Bassa Parmense, passing through historic villages, Renaissance fortresses, and millenary landmarks. A circular route that combines nature, art, and history, ideal for groups seeking an active and cultural experience at the same time. The main stops – San Secondo, Fontanellato, and Soragna – host three of the most fascinating castles in the area.

Program

Departure – San Secondo Parmense
Meet in the town center and meet the hiking guide.

Rocca dei Rossi
Visit to the Rocca dei Rossi, a sumptuous Renaissance residence preserving fresco cycles dedicated to Greek and Roman myths.

Intermediate stop – Pieve di San Genesio
Stop at the millenary Pieve di San Genesio, one of the oldest religious sites in the area, set in the peaceful countryside.

Fontanellato – Rocca Sanvitale
Arrival in Fontanellato and guided tour of Rocca Sanvitale, famous for the Hall of Diana and Actaeon, a youthful masterpiece by Parmigianino.
Followed by lunch at a traditional restaurant and a short walk through the village.

Soragna – Rocca Meli Lupi
Final stop: Soragna, with a visit to Rocca Meli Lupi, an elegant princely residence still inhabited today by the noble family.

Return by bicycle to San Secondo and end of activities.

Optional extension
Possibility to continue along a stretch of the Food Valley Bike: cycling along the Po riverbanks to reach Colorno, with its Reggia and Historic Garden.
