The day explores the symbolic sites of Ducal Parma, with a historical and artistic focus and an in-depth look at the figures of Maria Luigia of Austria, Napoleon Bonaparte, the Farnese, and the Bourbon families.

PROGRAM

Parma – Morning

Glauco Lombardi Museum
A unique museum housing documents, artworks, and personal objects related to Maria Luigia and Napoleon. An engaging introduction to court life and 19th-century European history.

Teatro Regio di Parma
A neoclassical masterpiece designed by Nicola Bettoli at the request of Maria Luigia, and one of Italy’s most prestigious opera houses.
Visits are possible only when no rehearsals or theatrical activities are scheduled.

Chiesa Magistrale della Steccata
A Renaissance treasure preserving Parmigianino’s frescoes and Bernardino Gatti’s dome. At the entrance, two marble monuments commemorate Adam von Neipperg and Duchess Maria Luigia.

Afternoon – Colorno

Picnic in the Historic Garden of the Reggia
A relaxing moment immersed in the greenery of the historic park / alternatively, a light lunch with a sandwich with salumi or cheese.

Guided tour of the Reggia di Colorno and the Historic Garden
The “Versailles of the Dukes of Parma”: residence of the Sanseverino, Farnese, and Bourbon families, transformed over the centuries by Bibiena, Petitot, and finally Maria Luigia.
A journey through historic rooms, furnishings, architecture, and the magnificent Italian and French-style gardens.

Educational Workshop – Botanical Snapshots: Tree Hunt
An outdoor educational experience focused on discovering the biodiversity of the garden.
