Morning – A Journey Through the Middle Ages, Wine, and Traditions
Arrival in Castell’Arquato in the morning and meeting with the local guide.
Castell’Arquato, one of “Italy’s Most Beautiful Villages”, welcomes visitors with a timeless atmosphere: stone streets, untouched corners, and medieval architecture that tells centuries of history.
Guided tour of the medieval village, with stops at:
- Piazza Monumentale, the picturesque heart of the village
- Palazzo del Podestà (14th century), an elegant 14th-century civic building
- Romanesque Collegiate Church, featuring precious examples of sacred art (entrance included)
- Rocca Viscontea, a 14th-century fortress with a 35-meter-high keep offering spectacular views over the Val d’Arda (entrance included)
12:00 PM – Wine Trekking
A guided, easy hike of about 5 km with a total elevation gain of 280 meters through the scenic hills surrounding Castell’Arquato. The route will explore the history, geology, and winemaking traditions of the area.
The walk concludes at a renowned local winery, where participants can learn about the wine production process and taste the region’s wines.
Return to Castell’Arquato for lunch at the Enoteca Comunale, featuring a menu of local salumi, cheeses, and Piacenza wines.
Afternoon – Monterosso Festival
Free time to participate in the Monterosso Festival, dedicated to the Monterosso Val d’Arda wine and the promotion of the village.
Along the main street, local wineries set up scenic stations offering:
- Guided tastings of Monterosso Val d’Arda
- Meetings with producers
- Insights into the valley’s winemaking traditions
- Blind tastings
